Attendance

At Thundridge, we believe that good attendance is essential for every child’s success in school. Good levels of attendance support academic progress, friendships and children’s wellbeing. We aim for all children to achieve 98% + attendance. Research shows a strong link between children’s attendance and their achievement. You can find our Attendance Policy in the Federation/Policies section of our website.

How can parents help?

- Always try to book non-urgent medical appointments outside of the school day.

- Keep children home for 48 hours following sickness or diarrhoea.

- Bring your child into school if they are just a little ‘under the weather’. Staff will contact you
if we have any concerns. This NHS website is has helpful advice: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/

- Make sure your child gets enough sleep and has a healthy morning routine.

- Talk to us if you're finding it difficult to get your child to school – we're here to help.

Reporting an absence

Unplanned Absence
Parents are expected to notify the school via telephone or email prior to 9.15am if their child is to be absent from school on that day because of ill health. Please speak to someone in the School Office when telephoning the school. In the interest of safeguarding, the School Office will telephone home if the school has received no notification by 9.15am. We usually find that parents take on this responsibility. If the school receives no reason for absence then it has to be recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Planned Absence
Please complete a leave of absence form from the School Office. We strongly discourage families taking holidays during term time and any absence due to family holidays will be unauthorised.
