Our mission is to provide a planned, exciting and relevant learning environment in which all participants are welcomed and valued, as part of a christian ethos.
Ponsbourne St. Mary's is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled school, which was founded in 1847. We celebrated our 150th birthday in 1997 with many former staff, pupils and friends of the school.
The original buildings remain with remarkably few alterations, except for the addition of our new classroom. The schoolhouse has now been adopted for educational purposes and is used mainly for offices, the library and additional teaching areas.
There are strong links with the church since we are a Voluntary Controlled School. Reverend Pauline, who is in charge of the local five parishes and is a regular visitor to the school takes weekly assemblies in the church on a Monday morning
Teachers and children attend church every Monday morning. Church Communion is held every term. Children have the opportunity to Communion or receive a blessing from Reverend Canon Pauline.
We currently have 96 children in 4 classes
There is a unique family atmosphere at the school. Parents are encouraged to become fully involved in their children's education and to support the school by assisting the class teachers in a wide variety of ways. These include the hearing of reading, IT skills, artwork, sewing, cookery, accompanying children on school visits and a host of other areas.
