Let Your Light Shine

Our Vision and Values

Our Vision

Being a Church of England school is very important to us. Our vision is that every member of our school community flourishes, in a school where we are living God’s love through Christian values.

At Ponsbourne St Mary’s, our Christian vision and values are central to everyday life at the school. Leaders, including our governing body, use our vision as a basis for planning and decision making.

Our vision is theologically rooted with links to our school Bible verse and class Bible stories which illustrate our core school values.

Linked Bible Verse

Our vision is theologically rooted and linked to our school Bible verse and class Bible stories.

You are like light for the whole world.  A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.  No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead he puts it on a stand where it gives light for everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.

(Matthew 5:14-16)

Our Core Values

We have three 'R's as our core values:

Respect

Let your light shine by being kind, caring and polite to others.

Responsibility

Let your light shine by helping others and looking after the things in our world.

Resilience

Let your light shine by learning from mistakes, being willing to try again and to try new things.

Mission

Our vision and values have close links with the Church of England's mission from the Vision for Education:

Educating for wisdom, knowledge and skills: enabling discipline, confidence and delight in seeking wisdom and knowledge, and developing talents in all areas of life.

Educating for hope and aspiration: enabling healing, repair and renewal, coping wisely when things go wrong, opening horizons and guiding people into ways of fulfilling them. RESILIENCE

Educating for community and living well together: a core focus on relationships, participation in communities and the qualities of character that enable people to flourish together. RESPONSIBILTY

Educating for dignity and respect: the basic principle of respect for the value and preciousness of each person, treating each person as a unique individual of inherent worth. RESPECT

Linked Class Bible Stories to help articulate vision

Adventurers – The Good Samaritan

Let your light shine by being respectful to everyone.

Explorers – The House on the Rock

Let your light shine by building lives on firm foundations and wisdom. Jesus' teaching gives advice on how to live well together.

Pioneers – The Lost Sheep

Let your light shine by having resilience to learn from mistakes and forgive others. We cannot ever do anything so bad that God will not forgive us and search for us. We should try to forgive others when they make mistakes too.

Discoverers – The Widow’s Offering

Let your light shine by being responsible and doing what they can to help others - even if this is something small. God sees our efforts.

Links to Wider Christian Values

We develop children’s understanding of Christian values and British values through our carefully planned cycle of collective worship/RE with a different focus each half term.
