Ponsbourne St. Mary’s School has a committed team of governors who play an important role in the leadership and everyday life of the school.  The governors are unpaid volunteers and are either elected or appointed to serve a 4 year term of office.  The current governing body of Ponsbourne St. Mary’s School comprises:

Headteacher

2 Parent Governors – elected by parents

1 Local Authority Governor – appointed by the County Council

3 Foundation Governors 

• The rector of Ponsbourne Church
• One governor appointed by the Church Pastoral Aid Society
• One governor appointed by the Diocesan Board of Education

Governors have equal rights to participate in the work of the governing body and to state their own views, but always work as a team and are bound by the collective decisions of that team.

They work in partnership with the headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school and is the principle professional advisor to the governing body.  In addition, we receive advice from our Hertfordshire Improvement Partner.

Our governing body meet for a full board meeting once every half term. Within the governance structure, there is a finance and resources committee and a curriculum working party who meet termly.

The governors who have served since September 2023 are listed below, including associate members.  Associate members are appointed by the governing body to provide specific support and expertise at either committee or full governing body level.
